todo thumbnailThe following is from an article by Linda Stone (click here for full article). I think it just revolutionized my life.

Here’s an excerpt:

“How to switch from managing time to managing attention? Here are some of the suggestions I’ve collected so far and I hope you’ll comment to let me know your suggestions:

1. Each evening or morning before you start your day, make a short list of your intentions (the result and feeling of something you want) for the day and by each, write the related to do’s for that day. Try to keep your list to 5 intentions. Consciously choose what you will do and what you will not do. Keep a different list of what you will review for inclusion on other days.
2. List only what you really expect to do that day. As other things come to mind, write them on a separate list. By putting these items on a separate list, you are creating the space to be in the moment with each of your day’s priorities. Review that list as you plan for the next day and determine how they fit in to your plans. Give yourself some down time, enjoy your successes at the end of the day.
3. Give yourself meaningful blocks of uninterrupted time to focus on each intention. Turn OFF technology each day during those blocks and focus on your intentions.
4. At home, be clear about what technology you’ll use and where. Computer in the kitchen? Maybe not. A friend of mine just removed the computer from her kitchen and said she is now far less likely to stop to constantly check email or news. In the kitchen, she pays attention to her family and prepares food. Sometimes they do group family activities at the kitchen table. When she heads into her office to work on her computer, her children know not to disturb her while she works.”

After abandoning my blog for about 8 months, I’m back. My hope was to rework my site to better display my work. That’s in the works. In the mean time, I’ve been posting my work to Vimeo.com. It pretty much destroys youtube. Keep in touch.

Thoughtful MonkeyYou can’t help but love Columbus, especially since he got me the day off on Monday. To celebrate, my apartment mate, Dalcy, and I visited the best collection of stuffed animals in the history of mankind, the American Museum of Natural History. Unlike suggested in recent movies all exhibits were truly, might I say, dead. (Although I though I saw the monkey twitch.) Because Dalcy is in the Coast Guard we got to see the museum, Planetarium showing, and an Imax dinosaur film for $8. Sweet deal because, although cool, I would not have wanted to pay any more for the extra shows. Some of museum was intellectually insulting. Somehow scientists think they’ve figured it all out and love to flaunt their speculations as fact. In spite of this distasteful approach one thing stood out. In the Hall of Biodiversity there is a gigantic wall of varied animals from butterflies to sharks, each given it’s own name. What amazed me is that in spite of a total disregard for a Creator, people still instinctively and obsessively pursue His original purpose for man, to subdue and and have dominion over creation. Keep it up guys!

utoob videoLast week was pretty busy. I finished 5 video pieces for an event, all in about 3-4 weeks. Three of them were commercials for the event that were put on YouTube. The advantage of YouTube was certainly not the quality, but we could keep track of the view count and maybe get some feedback. In the end it was a pretty successful event with around 800 people showing up on a Thursday night to learn about the ministries of Redeemer.

Here are links to the YouTube clips (with extremely original titles):

Dailey DesigningTonight my friend Dailey Crafton competed in the 3rd annual Cut & Paste competition here in New York. The venue was hopping with glitz, and the crowd was thick. Dailey did an amazing piece in the first round to illustrate the concept of currency. In spite of some crafty design and crowd-pleasing, t-shirt-throwing antics, alas, the judges picked inferior work to proceed to the next round. It was still had a great time. Here are my 25 favorite pics:

CurrencyAnd here’s Dailey’s work that he created in under 15 minutes. The photos of the guy, knife, and spray-painted background were also created and shot in those 15 minutes.

YumThis last week I joined the Park Slope Food Coop. The benefit is that I have access to high-quality food products at a very good price. What makes this possible is that all of the 13,000 coop members work at the store for about 3 hours every 4 weeks. On my first shopping experience I bought a box of organic lettuce. At a grocery store a bag of similar, non-organic Dole lettuce sells for $3.99. The same amount of organic lettuce at the coop was $2.16. Let’s just say I really enjoyed the week’s salads!

Picture 1.pngEven though I’ve never seen the show itself, I’ve watched the show opener many times. The Thomas Newman soundtrack is absolutely haunting. It drives the understated but powerful choice of imagery and together a beautiful mood is set to the theme of death. Death is, by nature, a subject that intrigues us all as humans. So all this makes HBO’s Six Feet Under show opener my all time favorite. Take a look at it here. Then watch the making of video. And don’t forget to enjoy other great work by Digital Kitchen.
